Prohibit the use of "Curtain Nets"

Pursuant to authorities granted by Sections 32.14.01-32.14.05 of the Revised Law & Order Code of the Yakama Nation, and consistent with current regulations that exist in Section 32.18.05 pertaining to subsistence fishing, approve a regulation for the Zone 6 Columbia River Treaty Subsistence Fishery that defines a fisheries gear type commonly referred to as “curtain nets” and prohibits use of those gears outside of commercial gillnet openings. Such prohibited fisheries gear type shall include (a) any paneled net constructed of a corkline, leadline, and webbing that is intended to hang in the water, either set in place or drifting, and deployed in such a manner as to intercept and snare by the gills or fins fish swimming in a direction perpendicular to it; and (b) any paneled net without a marked and buoyed top line, and without a weighted or anchored bottom line, and deployed in such a manner as to intercept and snare by the gills or fins fish swimming in a direction perpendicular to it. Authorize punishment for violation of this Regulation as provided under Section 32.18.07 of the Revised Law & Order Code of the Yakama Nation. Authorize enforcement of this Regulation effective December 01, 2025.
