In 2008, the Yakama Nation, along with the Bonneville Power Administration and other federal partners, signed the Columbia Basin Fish Accords. This agreement provides Yakama Nation Fisheries with 10 years of funding for comprehensive, “gravel to gravel” on-the-ground recovery projects for salmon and steelhead, Pacific lamprey, and White sturgeon in all of their habitats and throughout their lifecycle. The target is tangible survival benefits, and our projects include upgrading passage over federal dams, restoring river and estuary habitat, and upgrading hatcheries to boost fish fitness and resiliency.
